Unsurprisingly the 1800 honour for a win has been nerfed, there will be a day, a glorious day when Blizz remember that their customers are not all drooling morons and can spot how to min/max a given mechanic they’ve been provided with.  They’ve given us communication channels between factions alongside all the non-Blizz forums so the message gets around rather quickly.

However neither the “1800 honour” fix or the nerf of it change the underlying problem, the zone is broken.

  • Defenders have a massive advantage
This is simply bad design, it was pointed out on the beta and nothing was done to resolve the problems inherent in the zone.  I suspect we’re in for another two years of the zone getting the “Wintergrasp treatment” where Blizz keep trying to tweak the design.
  • “Bridge Rush”
Easily predicted (why wouldn’t players lurk on the bridge for a 50/50 chance of getting free honour) and easily prevented.

Five minutes before close the gates on the bridge and port everyone out of the zone
At start port in those selected

  • Change the starting mechanic from a “defend / attack” to a “gain control” approach, this removes the imbalance in the zone.
  • Get my PvE out of your PvP
My preference is for raiding, I do some PvP when the mood takes me, and at the moment to get some quick gear ups for the holy set, however smashing my head against the Horde warmachine simply to get to a raid, and a quick raid at that.  Please let the raid be open to all, the battlezone dailies, let those go to the victors but let us all have the damn raid.

Dishonourable PvP

Picking up on a subject from MMO melting pot / Deuwowlity

A little background, I’m definitely a PvE player, on a PvE / RP server in the EU.  I do go toe to toe with the horde face mashing but I want it to be broadly on my terms.  Standing in the middle of my attacks on a quest mob trying to get me to flag myself, it’s not cool.  In the same way challenging me to a duel and then spamming me with /w about how I’m “chicken” or a “noob” because “only noobs refuse to duel”.

Here’s the thing, there are times when I want to go up against a real live opponent, and there are times (which is the bulk of my play time) when I want to be questing, or in a dungeon / raid or even bumming around working on some OCD triggered achievement.

While PvPKiddie may get off on 100% face to face combat, I don’t.  Generally these types are either twinked to the max or decked out in resiliance gear, so I know I’m going to get my arse kicked with no real challenge.  What most of these people want is an easy kill so they can crow about how awesome they are.

Guys, this is only fun for you.  That is the problem.

The same applies for coming into a capital city, you want to come in blast through the place, kick Varian in the teeth.  Actually can someone please do that, though if you come to see Magni then I’ll be there mace at the ready to say “hi”.  That’s cool, you’re going for our bosses, however glitching the system to get up out of range of the melee on your mage and camping the AH.

Where the hell is the challenge in that, where’s the honour?

Invasion event QQ

Well it had to start at some point, the bitching about “I’m bored with them already”

I’m of the opinion that Blizz have learnt from the Scourge event, in that there was enforced PvP, cities were made completely unsable for pretty much everyone below the level cap at the time, lots of whining from players about being cleansed (hell I’m on an RP server, I’m a Paladin, you’re SICK with the Undeath Plague!!!, hell yes I’m going to save your sorry arse soul from Arthas).  It screwed anyone who was trying to level in any zone near a city (we were on a timer with RAF during the event which effectively meant dead speed levelling time).

So let’s look at the current event.

  • It’s pretty near as dammit optional, the quest lines are there but there’s no need to do them (good XP on lower level alts though, decent gold for the capped players)
  • The in-city event is every 2-3 hours or so, there are portals for low level players to get out of the city to safety, and it’s time limited on each cycle.
  • Only two cities per-faction are affected

I’m still holding to my expectation that we can expect the shattering and some interim quests hitting next week bringing the chaos of the invasion to an end (or be brought under control at least).

So, stop complaining this event is an order of magnitude less cripping to normal play than the scourge event, it’s been designed remembering that there needs to be a balance between “world changing events, big excitement” and “not everyone is heavily into this sh*t”.
